Escaping from the Blizzard of 2010 to Cat Cay Paradise

I left SYS-CON's offices in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, right on time just before the snow storm closed the airports. These live pictures below show East Saddle River Road through my iPhone on my way to the airport. I'm adding more pictures daily to my "live photo blog" from Cat Cay... This driver in front of me slipped and hit the sidewalk outside Yossi's Deli, at the corner of East Saddle River Road and Lake Street in Montvale, New Jersey. As I arrived in Ft Lauderdale, I met pilot Eric who was waiting to take me to Cat Cay. We took off on a Norman Islanders (BN-2) as soon as I parked my car behind the airport control tower. The Islander is a twin engine, high wing, fixed gear, STOL (short take-off and landing) aircraft. The Islander is operated in remote areas all over the world and has an excellent reputation of being a real work horse. It is particularly sui... (more)

Agents To Pay For Buyer Stimulus

The website, Lookflorida.com states: 'A group of Florida real estate agents have agreed to participate in the FREBS program.  These agents will give you  a cash stimulus at closing on your Florida real estate purchase.  You could be eligible for up to $150,000' The stimulus program is an initiative to help buyers with closing costs, but could end up doing a lot more.  Like many recent cash stimulus programs, such as 'Cash for Clunkers' there needs to be plenty of money behind the project in order to make it successful.  To fund this program, the agents involved will give a portion of their commission back to the buyer at closing. The FREBS program is aimed at individuals, companies or businesses interested in purchasing Florida real estate.  The program works by agents allowing buyers to receive a percentage of the commission that the brokerage firm receives from th... Dealing With Balistreri Realty in Lighthouse Point, Florida Has Been A Nightmare

South Florida Real Estate Journal When we decided to sell our home last December we made the mistake of picking a realtor closest to our home, rather than doing a comprehensive research, interviews, and reference checks. I thought if a buyer wants to see the house, they could just come and show it very conveniently. We learned the hard way that there is more to listing a house for sale than just picking a realtor out of a hat. The second mistake we made was signing a listing contract with the realtor without an attorney review. The realtor I am talking about is Balistreri Realty in Lighthouse Point, Florida, and a nightmare we have been living in since we signed an agreement with this firm on December 19, 2008. We provided 30 photos of our home to Balistreri Realty to be used in online listings of the property. Two months into the listing, I discovered all photos but ... (more)

Barbara Corcoran's Real Estate Morality Play

Florida Real Estate on Ulitzer Florida Real Estate on Ulitzer- I remember seeing this woman, Barbara Corcoran, on TV walking inside a house with a fortune teller, spreading fumes as the fortune teller whispered some sort of prayer so that the house would sell real fast. What a crackpot scene that was. Anyway, Barbara Corcoran's fortune teller and magic spelling gypsies have not helped Florida residents sell their homes or pay their mortgages since the housing slump hit America. I thought that scene was a candid camera joke on me; I looked around my living room to see if there were hidden cameras secretly taping my reaction. I usually work with CNBC on in the background. For some strange reason I woke up to NBC this morning with Matt Lauer talking to Barbara Corcoran. Matt said, "Barbara, lots of home owners are walking away from their homes as they're not worth the m... (more)

Retail Vacancy Rate in Northern New Jersey Climbed to 6.6%

With the rash of recent retailer bankruptcies and downsizings adding to an inventory that included unclaimed spaces from earlier failures, the vacancy factor in retail properties along northern New Jersey's six major shopping corridors jumped to 6.6% during 2008 from 3.6% a year earlier, according to R.J. Brunelli & Co., Inc. Routes 4 and 23 were the only roadways to show an improvement from 2007. While the six-county region remains one of the most vibrant retail markets in the nation, the firm warned that it could take several years for the vacancy factor to get back to customary levels. In its nineteenth annual study of the northern New Jersey market, the Old Bridge, N.J.-based retail real estate brokerage found 1.84 million square feet of vacancies in the 27.96 million square feet of space studied along the six corridors, with availabilities seen in 118 of the 808... RIP SEO, Broadcast, Email, PR and…Wait What?

It’s become incredibly in vogue to classify different marketing channels as “dead.”  Sounding the death knell for traditional media was first, whether that was 30 years ago with the rise of cable TV, or more recently with content streamed online, to multiple devices, on demand. The press release has been metaphorically buried over and over again, only to rise from the grave. More recently, digital channels, such as email marketing, have been called dead (despite data to the contrary), and the latest earnings reports have people putting Facebook (and social media altogether) on life support. The most recent target seems to be Search Engine Optimization (SEO), as an article on Forbes.com last week stirred the pot with the attention-grabbing headline,The Death Of SEO: The Rise of Social, PR, And Real Content. Journalists/soothsayers seem to be particularly enthusiasti... (more)
